Jonathan Brand works at Lakelaw's Chicago office. He represents Chapter 11 debtors, Chapter 7 trustees, and creditors in a variety of insolvency proceedings pending in State and Federal Bankruptcy Court. He has also prosecuted and defended a significant number of adversary proceedings pending in bankruptcy courts across the country. Through his practice, Jonathan has handled a wide range of matters in the construction, manufacturing, real estate, equipment leasing and pharmaceutical industries. Jonathan also represents a wide range of clients with restructuring matters and out-of-court workouts.
Jonathan is admitted to practice in Illinois and Florida. Jonathan is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, Southern District of Florida, and Middle District of Florida. Jonathan is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Illinois State Bar Association.
Prior to joining Lakelaw, Jonathan served as a law clerk for the Bankruptcy Court of the Northern District of Illinois and as a law clerk to the Honorable John S. Dalis for the Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of Georgia. In his role as a law clerk, Jonathan served the Bankruptcy Court and had extensive exposure to complex bankruptcy issues in consumer and business cases. Specifically, he conducted research and drafted opinions in a variety of consumer and business bankruptcy cases.
Jonathan is active in various civic organizations in the Chicago area. Jonathan particularly enjoys his work with the C.A.R.E. Program (Credit Abuse Resistance Education) where he spends his time in local high schools educating students about credit card abuse and smart consumer spending. He also is a volunteer for the Holocaust Remembrance Committee, the young professional organization associated with the Illinois Holocaust Remembrance & Education Center in Skokie.
