Practice Summary

For over 25 years, Jim’s practice has focused on bankruptcy/insolvency, creditor/debtor, real estate and business law.  Jim is often asked to speak locally and statewide and has published several articles on these topics.  He has also taught business law and constitutional law courses to undergraduate and graduate students.

BANKRUPTCY/INSOLVENCY and CREDITOR/DEBTOR

As a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee, Jim has administered thousands of Chapter 7 bankruptcies. 

Jim has also represented creditors in all chapters of the Bankruptcy Code and both business and consumer debtors in proceedings in all chapters (except for 12 and 15) He has represented debtors, creditors and receivers in numerous receiverships and has operated businesses as a Chapter 11 operating Trustee and as a receiver in Chapter 128 receiverships.

Jim has also represented both debtors and creditors in countless collection, replevin, foreclosure and matters. 

REAL ESTATE

Jim has assisted hundreds of buyers and sellers in both residential and commercial real estate transactions in addition to representing numerous real estate developers over the years.  He has drafted all types of real estate documents including road agreements, easements well agreements.  Jim practice has also included a significant amount of real estate litigation, including appeals.

BUSINESS


Jim has helped many small businesses with all sorts of legal issues including business organization and dissolution, non-compete agreements, employment matters, credit issues, sales and purchasers, and business succession planning.  Furthermore, in addition to being the managing director of Lakelaw Wisconsin, Jim has operated businesses as a Chapter 11 operating Trustee and as a receiver in Chapter 128 receiverships.
