  • Carrie Zuniga won two five-figure settlements for her consumer bankruptcy clients who were victimized by creditors who tried to collect debts even after the clients filed bankruptcy cases. The Bankruptcy Judge, in his remarks from the bench, characterized her work as perhaps the most excellent work he had seen in the field, as he ruled in favor of Carrie's client.
  • David Leibowitz won a victory in bankruptcy court in Rockford, Illinois on April 29, 2009. Judge Barbosa held that Lakelaw's chapter 13 client did not have to pay all his disposable income in a chapter 13 plan as long as he paid all of his debts off in a 5 year period. This reversed Judge Barbosa's prior ruling that would have required all income to be paid and that the plan be completed in less than 5 years.
  • David Leibowitz has been named "Special Projects Leader" for the American Bankruptcy Institute's Commercial Fraud Task Force. In that role, David is spearheading and editing the ABI Commercial Fraud Manual to be published in 2010.
  • Lakelaw is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Administration to assist Wisconsin homeowners in retaining homeownership. Lakelaw is the only private firm to have been so honored and is sharing this grant with the highly respected Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee.
  • Lakelaw Waukegan purchased the building next door at 418 W. Clayton Street to better serve our clients.  Our new Consumer Law Center is now providing dedicated staff to help clients with bankruptcy, credit counseling, credit reporting issues and a wide variety of consumer law issues. We also have established a “Client Learning Center” where clients will be able to get up-to-the-minute information about the laws and procedures affecting them.
