Trustee and Receivership

Our leader, David Leibowitz, has been appointed by the United States Trustee to serve as a Chapter 7 trustee.  David has been a trustee since 1990.  During this time, Lakelaw has overseen at least 20,000 cases.

Presently, David is serving as trustee in the following significant cases:

IFC Credit Corporation (Top 100 equipment leasing company in liquidation)
Keystone Mechanical, Inc. (Leading plumbing contractor in liquidation)
Kevin G. Carney (Accused Ponzi-scheme perpetrator)
Goldblatt's Bargain Stores, Inc. (Department store liquidation)
Michael Lynch (former metal manufacturing executive)

Mr. Leibowitz has served as trustees in chapter 11 cases and cases converted from Chapter 11 to chapter 7.  He has liquidated millions in assets for distribution to creditors.

David Leibowitz is eligible to serve as an assignee in an assignment for the benefit of creditors in Illinois.  David is eligible to serve as a receiver in state court litigation such as foreclosures, dissolutions of corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies and in equity cases generally.  David is eligible to serve as a trustee and executor in probate cases as well.

Lakelaw also proudly represents other bankruptcy trustees.  Presently, the firm represents at least 5 other chapter 7 trustees, all of whom have selected Lakelaw because of our demonstrated expertise.

We are proud members of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees. David has been invited to speak at the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees meetings.  David has published in the NABT’s publication NABTalk on more than one occasion.  Now, David Leibowitz has written an article on Residential Mortgage Issues in Consumer Bankruptcy Cases to be published in the 2008 Norton’s Annual Survey of Bankruptcy Law.

Recognized nationally as a leader in combating fraud, David Leibowitz is now a principal author and editor-in-chief of the American Bankruptcy Institute Fraud Manual, to be published in 2010.

We have achieved outstanding results in our discharge of fiduciary obligations.  We have achieved outstanding results in representing others in the discharge of their obligations as trustees as well.  We are proud to have earned their confidence and business.

We treat our trustee and receivership work with the same Care, Kindness, Courtesy, Respect, Professionalism and Dedication that our clients have come to expect from Lakelaw.
