Wisconsin Bankruptcy Filings for 2012

Posted on Mar 9, 2012 in Bankruptcy, Chapter 13, Chapter 7, Wisconsin

The local bankruptcy courts all keep statistics for the number of bankruptcies filed in a given month and year. Through February, the Eastern District of Wisconsin (covering Milwaukee, Kenosha, Green Bay, and most of the surrounding areas) has already seen 2,417 filings. Although this is a 7% decrease from January and February 2011, this still indicates a high rate of filings.
Intrestingly, Chapter 7 filings have gone down this year, but Chapter 13s have increased. This could mean increased hope in saving homes, catching up on car loans, and improved job conditions.
Stay tuned for further developments over the course of this year as well as statistics from the Northern District of Illinois.
